  1. Knead the dough with a machine or by hand.
  2. Place the dough into a small bowl and pour a generous amount of oil over it. Let it rest for 30 minutes. This will make the dough more elastic.
  3. Place the raisins into a small bowl, pour the rum over them, and leave them to soak.
  4. Melt the butter in a pan, add the breadcrumbs, and roast them until golden brown.
  5. Mix the cinnamon with the sugar.
  6. Peel and core the apples, and chop them into thin slices. You can cut them into eighths, then use a 4 mm blade in a food processor to slice the pieces.

  10. Spread half of the filling onto the dough, leaving about 5 cm clear on each side.
  11. Fold the sides of the rectangle over the filling.
  12. Fold the side of the dough facing you over the filling, and use the cloth to carefully roll it into a cylindrical shape.
  13. Roll it off the cloth and onto a baking tray.
  14. Repeat steps 9-13 for the other half.
  15. Brush the strudel with melted butter, and place it into a preheated oven to bake at 190°C for 35 minutes, until golden brown.
  16. Take it out of the oven and brush it with melted butter again.
  17. Let it rest for 30 minutes, then dust it with powdered sugar.
  18. Slice the strudel into 4 cm slices and serve warm.
